One missing tooth: implant or bridge
Most people arrive with one missing tooth and two options in front of them. A bridge is quicker and usually cheaper at the outset, but it works by cutting down the healthy teeth on either side of the gap to carry the span, and those two teeth then do the work for the rest of their lives. A dental implant stands on its own in the bone and leaves the neighbors alone. It also keeps the bone working, which matters more than it sounds: the jaw shrinks where a root used to be, and a bridge does nothing to slow that while an implant does.

Past a single tooth the arithmetic changes, because implants do not have to replace teeth one for one. Two can carry a bridge across a longer gap, and as few as two can anchor a denture that currently shifts while you eat. - Most cases run 3–6 months from placement to final crown, plus another 4–6 months upfront if grafting is needed. Same-day temporaries are possible in select cases.
